EcoVadis is the world’s most trusted sustainability ratings provider, responsible for assessing over 100,000 companies across 175 countries and 200 companies to date since it launched in 2007. The universal assessment body assesses companies across four pillars of corporate social responsibility; environment, labour & human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement, enabling them to benchmark and improve performance.
Following Apollo’s annual reassessment, the company is pleased to report an improvement in its overall score from 73/100 in 2021 to 80/100 this year in recognition of its continued commitment and drive to improve its social and environmental impact. This includes a scoring increase of 10 in labour & human rights and an increase of 30 in sustainable procurement, previously identified as improvement areas in Apollo’s last assessment. The company has put significant effort into addressing these over the year with the introduction of a supplier code of conduct, development of a supplier risk analysis profile, sustainable procurement policy, internal staff training on sustainable procurement, integration of social or environmental clauses into supplier contracts and initial development of a new supplier questionnaire encompassing CSR objectives to advance towards their aim of rewarding and recognising those within their supply chain making the highest contributions to sustainability.
Apollo’s second platinum EcoVadis rating and higher scoring across the board marks another step forward for the company in its path to becoming sustainable. Earlier this year the company published its first CSR report, transparently reporting on the progress it has made to improve its social and environmental impact, highlighting its achievements over the year including achieving net zero against its scope 1 and 2 emissions, switching to 100% renewable energy and £2000 donation to support global and local charities.
The company also announced its longer term aims including to become a net zero company by 2040 and to move towards a completely sustainable supply chain as it pursues its mission to become the socially responsible partner of choice in the supply and manufacture of high quality research chemicals to support discovery across the global market.
Neil Hamilton, President / CEO said “we are delighted to not only have secured our second consecutive platinum rating from EcoVadis but to also have improved our scoring from the previous year. A great accolade to the engagement, hard work and drive from our people, partners, and suppliers as we’ve challenged ourselves, innovated and transformed how we operate to advance our sustainability ambitions to create a better future. We are also under no illusion of the challenges the world faces and recognise that we need to continue to drive forward fundamental change to create a fairer, safer and healthier future.”
