Bouygues Energies & Services have successfully handed over the Beryllium & Optics Centre of Excellence manufacturing facility

Bouygues Energies & Services, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, is delighted to announce they have successfully completed the multi-million-pound manufacturing facility for Cambridge Technology, a Novanta Company, located in Taunton.

Bouygues Energies & Services provided specialist design and fit-out solutions, including electrical, mechanical services, commissioning, and validation. The company converted the existing industrial building into a state-of-the-art facility with a total GFA of 2777 m2. The new facility houses a hi-tech manufacturing facility, ISO8 classified cleanroom, process areas, production facility, plant area, and new offices.

Despite the pandemic challenges thrown at the project team, they followed the fast-track construction programme and delivered the facility to the client on time within 56 weeks.

“Delivered on-time and within budget, the new centre of excellence provides a step change in manufacturing capabilities. Cambridge Technology now have a world class facility which sets the standard for the controlled environments needed to safely manufacture high precision Beryllium components”, stated Adrian Willoughby, Director of Manufacturing & Engineering Innovation Programmes, Cambridge Technology.

Designed and built using the modular techniques and 3D coordinated model, the bespoke cleanroom panels were prefabricated off-site speeding up the installation of the cleanroom area.

The facility is designed and installed to stringent validation and regulatory requirements. It includes the temperature-controlled to a tolerance of +/-2 degrees. The specialist design strategies were applied through the facility for an air pressure cascade to manage the containment of any airborne Beryllium particles. Thus, we installed the dedicated extract streams through HEPA filtration safe change housings to large extract stacks external to the facility to capture any contaminated air.

The new high-tech facility will enhance Cambridge Technology's low to high production batches within their manufacturing facility for laser beam steering components.

Steven Weir, CEO, Bouygues Energies & Services Contracting stated: "We are very pleased to deliver this flagship project to Cambridge Technology. It is brilliant to see how digital and modular approaches pave the way in real innovation in designing and building our projects. This project is a testimony of the close client relationship and engineering excellence."

With 50 years of experience in controlled critical environments, Bouygues Energies & Services is a major market player offering a turnkey solution and a high level of expertise delivering state-of-art cleanroom, laboratory, and manufacturing facilities.
