ApconiX welcomes Josh Wright

ApconiX is delighted to welcome Josh Wright who joins for a year’s placement having just completed his second year of a bachelor’s degree in business and economics.  Josh becomes part of the marketing and business development team and will be working with Dr Cynara Livera, Head of Marketing and Dr Laurence Bishop, Head of Business Development and Deputy Director.

Studying Business and Economics

Josh Wright has always been drawn to business and economics. Studying both subjects for his A-levels as well as maths, he likes the logical aspects of economics and to see how that changes into the business world. Josh is now an undergraduate student of Business, Management and Economics at Nottingham Trent University. After a few weeks of summer placement, he chose to join ApconiX again for a placement year between 2nd and 3rd year of his degree, to gain experience in business development and marketing and the pharmaceutical industry. Josh is still tied to University with assignments to complete this year outside of work.

During his A-levels, Josh also became a qualified PE teacher and can now teach students up to age 15.

Working at ApconiX

Josh had contacts with Dr Richard Knight who used to work with his mother at AstraZeneca and obtained a summer placement of 7 weeks in June 2023 with Cynara. During his second year of University, he was contacted again by Cynara and offered a year placement.

Whilst his first summer placement was focused on helping in marketing, this year Josh is being handed more responsibilities and is also extending his business skills with Laurence. Getting in touch with prospective clients met at conferences, researching individual people and companies are among his daily tasks, and Josh is also a point of contact for clients interested in ApconiX’s ion channel laboratory services. Josh enjoys putting into practise theories about business he has learnt during his degree.

Cynara commented, “Josh has proved to be very versatile, working in both business development and marketing.  Always very keen to help and always with a broad smile, Josh has become a valuable member of team.”

Interests Outside Work

Josh is very active. He used to play football and tennis and now plays Rugby for University. He is currently training for a marathon. Josh says he would like to improve his cooking skills this year, and he is saving for a long trip to explore Australia with a friend.
