Lindsey Ingleby Talecki gained an B.A. in Genetics from Iowa State University before moving to Philadelphia for her Master’s degree in Biomedical Chemistry with an ion channel lab at Thomas Jefferson University. After working as a research technician to study ion channel related disease in the same lab, she joined GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in 2006.
As part of the Safety Pharmacology department, and more specifically the cardiovascular (CV) and Central Nervous System (CNS) related ion channel non-clinical safety team, Lindsey was working on hERG, sodium and calcium channel automated and manual patch-clamp, developing bespoke assays and supporting drug discovery teams. After 13 years in that role, Lindsey moved forward to Investigative Safety at GSK, where she started looking at proteomics and genomics, and studying complex safety questions, e.g. mechanisms of actions behind different safety findings, bringing RNAseq to the lab. Throughout her time at GSK, Lindsey wrote Target Safety Reviews (TSRs) around her lab work first in Safety Pharmacology and then in Investigative Safety.
Lindsey commented “I found ApconiX just through a search, and I was very attracted to the culture I was sensing through the website and social media”. With 17 years’ experience working in a non-clinical safety lab, and 8 years of writing dozens of TSRs for GSK, she realised her experience was very relevant to what ApconiX is doing.
Although her main role is in the Safety Science team, writing TSAs and delivering investigative toxicology support, she has had conversations with Mike Morton, co-director and Head of the Ion channel laboratory, as to how she could also contribute in some way by sharing her knowledge with our lab team. Living in Philadelphia, Lindsey knows many labs and biotechs in the area and she hopes she can help ApconiX grow their presence in the US, supporting the Business Development team.
Lindsey was able to represent ApconiX within her very first few weeks as she signed up for the MASOT (MidAtlantic Society of Toxicology) conference just before starting the job.
James commented “I am delighted to welcome Lindsey to the Safety Science team. Her target safety experience and expertise in ion channels and investigative toxicology gained from a great track record in Big Pharma is a valuable addition to our ability to tackle target and mechanistic safety issues.”
Lindsey has been a tap-dancer since she was 4 years old. She dances in a studio every week and she said it “keeps her sane”. She used to take part in the New Year’s Parade in Philadelphia with a Mummers string band. Mother of a 5-year-old who she says “adores bugs”, Lindsey spends a lot of time with him in the garden looking for bugs. She is also part of a book club that she met through dancing.
