Tarleton Communications, a specialist life sciences public relations agency based in Harrogate, has expanded the team and appointed a new Account Executive following a period of sustained organic growth.
Tarleton was set up by Thomas Averre in 2022 to help start-ups, spinouts and SMEs in the life sciences and engineering sectors to raise awareness and influence high value stakeholders. It provides a full suite of public relations services including traditional media and press management, specialist content production and public affairs consultancy. Most of the agency’s work with the biotech community involves profile raising for investment and industry engagement with a view to licencing and acquisition agreements.
Following a period of continuous growth, the agency has hired Tom Horn (pictured, R), a former Radio News Hub journalist who has previously worked for Sony Electronics on pan-European PR campaigns across their healthcare portfolio. Horn is Tarleton’s first hire and will work alongside Tarleton’s founder to help biotech clients reach and influence investors, regulators, policy makers and other stakeholders within the life sciences sector.
Prior to founding Tarleton, Averre had an extensive communications career in life sciences, leading communications and business development for a biomedical spinout and sitting on the Department for Health and Social Care’s Industry Communications Advisory Board during the pandemic.
Thomas Averre, Founder and Managing Director at Tarleton Communications, said “After two years of flying solo, this marks a huge milestone. I'm really excited for what this means for the agency and our clients. Tom is phenomenally talented and will bring ideas, skills and a fresh outlook to the business.
When I set up the agency I based it on a simple proposition – delivering excellent work. For me, this meant control over quality and so no freelancers and no outsourcing whatsoever. This approach has been critical to our growth so far and I know Tom will help us add even more value to our clients as a core member of the team.”
Tom Horn, who joins Tarleton as an Account Executive, said “I’m delighted to be joining Tarleton in this important first-hire role. I’ve joined at a busy moment from the agency, hot on the heels of a patient engagement workshop with King’s College London and in the midst of a strategy development project for a biotech spinout.
I’ve been impressed at the level of innovation happening within client businesses and look forward to drawing on my international and radio experience to increase exposure for early-stage drug discovery companies, and those in the supply chain.”
