Northern Powerhouse Trade Mission to Turkey: Chemical and Pharmaceuticals Sectors, and Associated Supply Chains
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is delighted to invite businesses from across the Northern Powerhouse to submit an expression of interest to participate in a trade mission to Turkey. The programme is designed for businesses who operate in the chemical and pharmaceuticals sectors, as well as associated supply chains.

Since the pandemic, global supply chains are being reconfigured. This creates some clear opportunities for large scale investments, with a view to achieving fewer supply chain disruptions. Covid-19 has also created space for innovation within technological developments such as polymer recycling, 3D printing and integrating a longer-term renewable energy source.

About Turkey
Turkey is a large and fascinating market with plenty of export opportunities for UK businesses. It is home to both large multinationals and local businesses with a strong entrepreneurial culture. Turkey and the UK have strong commercial ties. English is increasingly used for business, and Turkey has adopted European business ethics and modern management practices.
The Turkish chemical sector is significantly reliant on imports in terms of raw materials and technology, and the untapped trade potential for UK chemical and pharmaceutical companies is huge. In 2021, businesses based in the North of England exported £210 million chemicals to Turkey. Exports of chemicals from the Northern Powerhouse made up 21% of all goods exported from the North of England to Turkey, and exports of medicinal and pharmaceutical products made up 5% of all goods exported from the North of England.*
