As well as taking actions to reduce its footprint through reducing the resources it uses, reducing waste and switching to renewable energy, unavoidable emissions have been offset through two projects: Gyapa Efficient Cookstoves in Ghana and Clean Water and Cooking in Guatemala.

Neil Hamilton, President / CEO at Apollo Scientific said “We are delighted to work with experts in this sector, Climate Impact Partners. They have over 25 years’ experience running some of the most innovative and largest voluntary carbon offsetting programs in the world. Working with them means all the projects we are supporting are independently verified and have a real and positive impact on the climate.”

Eleanor Boggis, Sustainability Executive at Climate Impact Partners, explained: “We work with leading organizations to deliver action on climate change and create a more sustainable world. Our joined-up approach helps organisations address their environmental impacts through high-quality carbon market solutions that also deliver positive impact for nature and local communities.”

About the Gyapa Efficient Cookstoves, Ghana project

This project provides efficient cookstoves and water filters that can reduce a household’s fuel consumption and emissions by over half. Families benefit from less indoor smoke from each meal, and the need to boil water before drinking is entirely eliminated.

In addition to delivering climate action sustainable development goal SDG 13, the project delivers additional benefits. The SDG contributions have been indicatively measured, and need to be confirmed:

  • SDG 1 No Poverty
  • SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being
  • SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth

About the Clean Water and Cooking, Guatemala project.

This project, which was the first Gold Standard water treatment or cookstove project in the country, distributes water filters and stoves that enable access to clean water and improve cooking conditions by increasing fuel efficiency and reducing harmful indoor air pollution.

In addition to delivering emissions reductions to help take urgent action to combat climate change (SDG 13), the project delivers a number of other sustainable development benefits. These include:

  • SDG 1 No Poverty
  • SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being
  • SDG 5 Gender Equality
  • SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation
  • SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy
  • SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production
  • SDG 15 Life on Land
