The BioCap Company Pitching Competition provides a unique opportunity for companies who are seeking investment, to present to the international life science investment community, more than 70 of whom were present at the 2021 BioCap Digital Conference which took place on Thursday 30th September.

The BioCap Conference provides a unique meeting place connecting life sciences businesses, researchers and investors. Navigating the life sciences funding landscape and identifying the life science investment opportunities that will advance and support the success of your business, BioCap offers a great opportunity to further discuss future collaborations in one-to-one meetings, helping businesses to realise their full potential, whatever your funding requirements are.

PulmoBioMed (PBM) is a medical device company focused on devices to collect exhaled breath condensate samples. The PBM-Hale device is unique in that it captures all analytes in breath and provides two separate samples; (a) the saliva and large droplet fraction and (b) the fine aerosol fraction. These samples enable analysis of both (i) oral cavity / upper lung and (ii) deep lung related conditions. Their vision is to develop the first hand-held biomolecular analyser for medical, veterinary, well-being and environmental use. The mission of PulmoBioMed is to deliver molecular diagnostic-grade health data from your lips to your hand.

PulmoBioMed CEO Peter Hotten commented “PulmoBioMed would like to thank Bionow for an excellent BioCap event; the session presentations were illuminating, and we gained great value from delegate networking; in particular meeting with potential investors. Winning the BioCap pitching competition was the icing on the cake and has provided a superb platform to promote the company.

The important unmet healthcare needs that PulmoBioMed’s technology and initial breath sampling product addresses, i.e., the ability to non-invasively obtain robust, reproducible and uncontaminated samples from both the upper and lower respiratory tract, will transform the ability to monitor and treat lung health.

In addition, the unparalleled diversity of biomarkers that can be detected in the PBM-Hale samples will aid early identification of many other health issues such as certain cancer and metabolic diseases.

PulmoBioMed has made great progress in the last 12 months and has the vision and team to take the technology and products forward to serve significant medical markets.”

Head Judge and Competition Sponsor Alfredo Ramos, Managing Director CPI Enterprises said "I am delighted to announce PulmoBioMed as this year’s winner of the BioCap pitching competition.  We had an exceptional field of innovative companies going into the final and the quality of the participants' pitches was exceptional. It was PulmoBioMed who eventually captured the judging panel's attention with their clarity of proposition and the knowledge and passion displayed by their Sterghios Moschos, resulting in their win.  PulmoBioMed is an exciting, high growth potential company whose technology promises to be a gamechanger in the early detection of a range of respiratory diseases, childhood asthma in particular."

Geoff Davison, CEO of Bionow added “We were particularly impressed with the quality of the applications received this year and congratulate PulmoBioMed. BioCap was conceived 10 years ago to increase the visibility of the impressive life sciences opportunities in the North and the number and quality of investors now involved with the event shows the quality and breadth of opportunities in the North of England”
