Born in Russia, Olga graduated in 2002 with a Degree in Veterinary Medicine and Bioengineering from Ulyanovsk Agricultural University. She then worked several years for the State Veterinary Service in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (equivalent to Defra in the UK),
At one of her University Student Meetings, she met her former toxicology tutor who offered her a PhD position in Veterinary Toxicology & Pharmacology. For her thesis, Olga designed studies for the development of a veterinary pharmacological product. During her PhD, Olga relocated to the UK, returning to Russia frequently to complete her studies and defend her thesis.
Olga then became a study director at Sequani a job she says felt “rewarding and purposeful” to help develop drugs for patients who needed them. After 6 years, keen to expand her knowledge and wanting to learn other aspects of drug development, Olga became a Senior Toxicologist/Study director at Envigo, now LabCorp. There she gained expertise in development of biologics and medical devices.
For the next step in her career, Olga joined ApconiX as a Project Toxicologist, a position that would give her further exposure to drug development programs. Among her responsibilities will be designing and reviewing nonclinical toxicology studies (GLP and non-GLP), providing expert toxicological assessments and authoring regulatory submissions.
Dr Richard Knight, Director and Co-founder, commented “Olga’s veterinary background and diverse Study Directing experience at CROs is ideal for the Project Toxicologist role at ApconiX. We are delighted to have Olga part of the team”.
Olga likes to travel and has a bucket list of places she must see before she dies. Olga also likes live music, either concerts or festivals, and horse-racing. She commented “I think cats and horses are among the most graceful animals on the planet!”. She also likes hiking, and we are looking forward to counting her among the team for our fundraising hike this year!
