Enzymes are nature’s catalysts and powerhouses. They are proteins used to speed up biochemical reactions and are essential in all walks of life. In addition to their important biological roles, we can harness their capabilities for use in variety of beneficial applications. People have been using enzymes for thousands of years to make foodstuffs like bread, cheese, beer, wine, and vinegar. They are also frequently used as additives in washing and cleaning agents.

Join us to hear how scientists are using and engineering enzymes in the manufacture of new medicines to combat antimicrobial and drug resistance; herbicide resistant crops; cleaner and greener biofuels; and in the removal of environmental pollutants.

Wednesday 20 March 2024 6.00 – 7.00pm The Brontë Lecture Theatre, University of Huddersfield
