Addressing the UK Life Science Skill Shortage

After attending a number of Life Science conferences and events over the last 6 months and speaking with Scientific Leaders within the industry, there are clearly a number of challenges and risks to companies when securing new talent!

Attracting new talent to their teams is essential to their continuation of growth and expansion; this is only going to become more apparent as the Life Science industry is expected to remain in a growth period across the coming decade. This, coupled with record investment across the UKs Pharma and Biotech industries is certainly an area that needs to be addressed.

Within my specialism of supporting UK and Ireland based clients in recruitment drives within Fermentation, Upstream and Downstream Process Development and Engineering, I noticed a definite shift when speaking to our clients of the challenges they are facing when recruiting in these areas. There are very limited pools of candidates with this specific skill set which is causing further challenges not only with the planning for growth and expansion, but also the day to day running of the sites.

As recruitment specialists, Entrust Resurce Solutions are always discussing the market and how its evolving, not only with our clients but market leaders, local councils and non profit organisations who support the Biotechnology, Biopharma and Biomedical companies across the UK. We are very aware that as recruiters we have had to change our processes to keep up with the demands of businesses and most certainly look at the bigger picture, watching cross sectors and relocating candidates as an example.

What companies on my network are experiencing the same issues? Would you be open for an introductory discussion to establish how we can work together collaboratively to address these current challenges and also how we can establish long term relationships as recruitment partners to maintain the level of talent you will require over the predicted period of growth.
