Bionow Christmas Message

Bionow Christmas Message

Published on 08/01/2019
Bionow Christmas Message 2018 has been a very successful and significant year for the sector across the North of England.

Here at Bionow we announced the appointments of Stella James and David Holmes to the team and were delighted to welcome Emma Banks, Martino Picardo, Kris Matykiewicz and Mark Hollingworth to the Bionow Board.

Most recently we celebrated the successes of the sector at the Annual Bionow Awards. The Bionow Awards honour the outstanding contributions of the North’s best companies and individuals who are driving innovation and delivering outstanding results. The award categories this year were keenly fought, and all of our applicants showed that they are among the best in the business.

Additionally, Bionow continued to host a diverse conference programme including 2 inaugural events: Accelerating Cancer Drug Development and Pharma Manufacturing, both of which proved to be hugely popular, with far reaching and engaging programmes that really connected with delegates and exhibitors alike.

As a sector, we continue to expand, with recent Government recognition of £1.6bn worth of investment in the North’s Life Science sector as part of the Life Science Industrial Strategy - with companies Fujifilm Diosynth and Qiagen continuing to invest heavily in the North. There are also a number of new facilities in the North of England that are near completion such as Nexus in Leeds, the Biosphere in Newcastle, the National Photonics Centre at CPI in Darlington with Citylabs 2 and 3 on the horizon and the Knowledge Quarter in Liverpool going from strength to strength.

The Medtech sector continues to boom, with Bionow involved in several important initiatives, such as the successful Medtech accelerator programme 'Get Ahead in Medtech' that supports early stage Medtech companies.

Looking ahead to 2019, Bionow is excited to offer a wide range of opportunities for companies, including the Bionow Procurement Scheme. Tailored to Northern purchasing behaviours, the scheme which continues to evolve, is free for all members and offers significant savings on a comprehensive range of products and services. Essentially providing everything a growing life science business requires – which goes a long way to strengthening your competitiveness.

2019 will also see Bionow continue to host a varied events programme, including our new and lively agenda free networking event; Biotech and Beers. You will find below dates for Bionow’s 2019 conferences, but also note there will be many more smaller events confirmed throughout the year, so we encourage you to sign up to the Bionow newsletter and keep up to date with the latest news.
