For the Bioinformatician role candidates are expected to have a PhD or Masters qualification with limited experience in industry.

For the Senior Bioinformatician position we expect a candidate with relevant qualifications and significant industrial experience.

The main purpose of this role is:

To lead the development of a bioinformatics capability within the organisation and to provide Bioinformatic analysis and support for projects using next generation sequencing technology.

To develop methods and approaches for analysing Next Generation Sequencing data, in particular for DNA meta-barcoding data, including use of published tools, development of new methods and bioinformatics pipelines.

Contribute to scientific papers and written reports for specific projects, to a time scale, scope and quality agreed in advance.

To provide advice to project managers on experimental design and data standards and to scope out available tools and where necessary develop software tools that can be used by wet-lab scientists and students.

To maintain awareness of, and to share, new Bioinformatic knowledge.

If you are interested in the position you must meet the following criteria:

-Minimum Master’s degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or other relevant subject, or equivalent experience. (PhD – Highly desirable)
A good working knowledge of genomics and the analysis of next generation sequencing data

-Ideally some Post-doc or industrial experience in a similar position
Experience working to accreditation standards e.g. ISO 9001

·A good knowledge of a range of programming languages, e.g.: Python, PHP, Javascript, SQL and relational database design, R, Perl, Java, Bash scripting, linux server administration

·Strong work ethic, attention to detail and ability to work flexibly to meet deadlines.
