Description of the role

Infex Therapeutics are looking to appoint a Microbiologist to support our expanding portfolio of antimicrobial drug development programs. The position will be based in Alderley Park working with the Biology team and conducting research to progress our programs targeting bacterial and viral pathogens. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and be motivated to get involved in developing new therapeutics to overcome this global problem. As part of our team, you will assess the biological profile of newly developed compounds using whole-cell and biochemical techniques. As such, the role is mostly lab-based and provides an excellent opportunity to get involved in the development of innovative new drugs for infections that have a critical unmet medical need.

Responsibilities

  • Performing a wide range of experimental techniques to evaluate developmental compounds (including, but not limited to, bacterial susceptibility testing, cytotoxicity profiling, cell culture, mode of action studies, enzyme assays, molecular microbiology)
  • Develop and validate innovative in vitro biological assays
  • Dependent upon experience there may be to opportunity to contribute to management of drug development programs and the publication of scientific research articles
  • Maintain good housekeeping as well as careful and thorough bench work
  • Keep careful records of experimental work and report when required
  • Meet deadlines
  • Communication of data to stakeholders
  • Maintenance of data storage systems
  • Routine lab maintenance (preparation of reagents, compound management)
  • Adherence to local SHE regulations

Skills/qualification

  • A minimum of an MSc or PhD in an area of study pertinent to the role
  • Experience in microbiology is essential (ideally at least 1 year of experience)
  • Familiarity with mammalian cell culture and/or molecular microbiology would be advantageous
  • Understanding of antimicrobial drug development and antibiotic resistance is desirable
  • Good interpersonal skills and teamwork
