Your responsibilities
 

  • Ensuring compliance with COMAH, DSEAR and ATEX as well as the successful implementation of the MAPP and process safety management system.
  • Managing the major accident hazard identification and risk assessment processes, including the Haz 0-7 study processes and others where appropriate, e.g QRA, LOPA, SIL assessment, Occupied Buildings Risk Assessment (OBRA) etc.
  • Ensuring major accident hazard (MAH) risks are evaluated against ALARP and involvement in decisions over the selection of the basis of safety for MAH control.  This may involve input into the selection, installation and operation of equipment and inspection/maintenance considerations.
  • Oversee compliance with the site Hazardous Substances Consent (HSC).
  • Ownership of the application of all process safety related principles, authorisation of relevant procedures and contribution to the creation/revision of other procedures as required.
  • Managing active and reactive monitoring systems relevant to process safety, e.g. reporting on process safety performance indicators and participating in incident investigation.
  • Input into site emergency response arrangements, in particular, the production of emergency response ‘pre-plans’.
  • Involvement in the preparation and revision of key permitting/licence documentation relevant to process safety such as the COMAH safety report, aspects of the EPR permit and hazardous substances consent issues.
  • Securing and managing the use of third-party expertise where required.
  • Represent the company on contact with the HSE, Local Authority and EA as required.
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of training on process safety issues.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audit and investigations as required.

Requirements for the role
 
  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline e.g. chemical/process engineering/chemistry (chartered membership of a relevant institution desirable).
  • Safety qualification desirable, e.g. NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma.
  • Demonstrable experience in a manufacturing/production environment.  Ideally experience in a technical, chemical manufacturing or engineering role.
  • Sound knowledge of major accident legislation such as COMAH with the ability to manage and lead on specific technical aspects of Process Safety.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and influence at all levels, and to identify practical and proportionate solutions to challenging or complex issues.
  • Broad based management skills and the ability to operate with minimum supervision.
