Role: Laboratory Technician, permanent.
Report to: Operations Manager
Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
Salary:  £20,200 pa, dependant on skills and experience, excellent benefits package plus annual bonuses.
Location: Alderley Park, Macclesfield, SK10 4TG.

As a result of year-on-year success within the company and continued business growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen to be a part of the compound management Laboratory Technician team.

The Role of a Laboratory Technician

As our Laboratory Technician, you will be working within our dynamic laboratory team to ensure that the laboratory facilities and equipment are maintained and operate in an efficient manner, carrying out tasks both independently and under supervision, that will enable the Science teams to deliver high-quality work to our customers.  Cyprotex will support you with relevant training and enable you to build a successful career within our fast-moving organisation.

We continually push to grow and improve our scientific offerings through bespoke projects. Our team is a friendly bunch that consists of 6 colleagues with varying levels of experience and areas of expertise team and in response to our growing business, we are looking for another Laboratory Technician to support the group’s further expansion.

  • Routine “first line” maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Responsible for liaising with onsite contract agencies and external specialist engineering support to arrange repairs and remedial works as required.
  • Managing the storage and safe disposals and recording of compounds on in-house databases.
  • Receipt of deliveries, warehousing operations, monitoring and re-stocking laboratory consumables, support company procedures for stock taking and external shipping.
  • Place orders and receive goods via electronic stock control system and purchasing software systems.
  • Ensuring all laboratory equipment and work areas are clean and in proper working order.
  • Making use of a global ordering system to order supplies and consumables.
  • Perform work to an exceptionally high standard, within specified timelines, and within safety regulations. 
  • Keeping up to date with relevant regulatory guidelines within a laboratory environment.


Skills & Competencies (essential)

  • Good written and oral skills, computer literate with previous experience using Microsoft Office and LIMS.
  • Highly self-motivated and personable with a reliable and enthusiastic approach.
  • The ability to work as part of a strong team or independently when required.
  • Able to communicate effectively within a team environment. Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to organise daily tasks, frequently work under pressure and meet tight deadlines and follow instructions.
  • Possess meticulous attention to detail, performing work to an exceptionally high standard, and within the company and statutory safety regulations.
  • Strong ability to maintain excellent laboratory records.


  • Experience in working in a laboratory environment, with automated liquid handling technology.
  • Use of balances, fume hoods, and basic chemical handling procedures.


Education, Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of GCSE’s (or equivalent), in Science, English and Maths. An A-Level / BTEC or Laboratory-based experience would be preferred but full training would be provided for any suitable candidate.
  • Working towards a qualification in General, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and motivated team player able to contribute to the delivery in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Possess excellent attention to detail, the ability with technical problem-solving, and proficient computer skills. 
  • Good verbal and written communication and time management skills is essential within this role.
