Role and Responsibilities

As our scientist, you will be working within our physical chemistry group, and an integral part of our team working closely with our skilled laboratory team to ensure all experimental aspects of in vitro physical chemistry assays are safely performed to a high standard, within scheduled timescales. We run extensive, and increasingly specialist, number of lipophilicities, aqueous solubility and plasma/blood/tissue binding assays for a broad range of customers. The group is committed to the advancement of physical chemistry in supporting rational compound design by providing bulk property insights that can relate molecular structure to a biological effect.  In doing so, it champions the use of new science and technology to provide tailored solutions aligned to the specific needs of each client.  The group currently consists of 18 physical chemists and in response to our growing business we are looking for a scientist to support further expansion…

Skills & Competencies (essential)

  • Responsible for the design and execution of Physical Chemistry measurements in protein binding, aqueous solubility, lipophilicity, and chemical stability assays, either alone or as part of a team, to a high standard and within specified time frames.
  • Responsible for processing and checking data, using scientific knowledge in analysis and interpretation, and problem solving where necessary.
  • To carry out assay development, validation, and bespoke assays, with the support of senior team members.
  • Assay management; responsible for planning and data delivery of particular assays within the team, communicating effectively within the team and with client management.
  • Responsible for performing routine laboratory-based tasks including:
    • Performing validation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
    • Contributing to the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
    • Management and ordering of stock consumables.
  • Coaching of less experienced colleagues on assay execution and data analysis.
  • Supporting our Quality System via preparation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures.

Education, Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of a BSc or equivalent in a relevant area of life science, with at least 1 to 3 year’s experience working within a laboratory environment. ideally with knowledge of physicochemical properties. 
  • Direct experience in Physical Chemistry assays such as protein binding, aqueous solubility, lipophilicity, or chemical stability is desirable.
  • Direct experience of working with automated liquid handling systems, liquid chromatography and mass spectroscopy instruments is preferred but not essential.
  • Good understanding of physical chemistry/DMPK assays and their relation to the drug discovery process.
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with a range of people, both within and outside of the immediate team.
  • Able to manage own time effectively, adapt to regularly changing priorities, and to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Able to combine information from multiple sources to diagnose and solve problems.
