2021 BioInfect Conference

2021 BioInfect Conference

Digital Event
Wednesday 21st - Thursday 22nd April 2021

About

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the biggest public health challenges of our time and fighting this serious threat is a priority that requires a collaborative approach across all sectors. BioInfect will look at the critical issues relating to the development of new anti-infectives, the endemic problem of resistance and the considerations for creating a truly global and effective response to antimicrobial resistance.

Antimicrobial resistance today
Antimicrobial resistance arises when the organisms that cause infection evolve ways to survive treatment. Once standard treatments are ineffective, it is easier for infections to persist and spread. These resistant organisms can be found in people, animals, food and the environment. The rise and spread of antimicrobial resistance is creating a new generation of ‘superbugs’ that cannot be treated with existing medicines.

Drug resistant bacteria infect over 50m people people worldwide killing over 700,000 people each year. Without effective antibiotics, even minor surgery and routine operations could become high risk procedures if serious infections can’t be treated.
