Why Bionow Events Offer Outstanding Value Across the North of the UK
As life sciences businesses balance growth ambitions with tighter budgets, the value of industry events is under increasing scrutiny. Organisations still need to connect with customers, collaborators and peers, but they also need confidence that each event delivers a clear return for the time and money invested.
We asked CEO Geoff Davison to explain why Bionow's events programme continues to grow across the North of the UK, with more than 35 events delivered to over 2,500 attendees in 2025. He discusses how the programme delivers exceptional value compared with many larger conferences, and why Scotland is becoming an increasingly important part of the Bionow community.
Why is cost-effectiveness such an important consideration for life sciences events today?
Every organisation is looking carefully at where they invest their time and money. Whether you're a start-up biotech, an established pharmaceutical company or a specialist supplier, you want to know that attending an event will deliver real value. People still need opportunities to network, learn and build relationships, but they're also looking for events that offer a genuine return on investment. That's been a core part of Bionow's approach for many years.
Our focus is on creating high-quality events that are accessible, relevant and practical, helping organisations connect with the right people without the significant costs that can often come with larger national and international conferences.
What makes Bionow events more cost-effective than many other industry events?
It's about looking at the total cost, not just the ticket price. Many larger conferences involve substantial registration fees, long-distance travel, accommodation and several days away from the business. Those resource implications can quickly add up, particularly for smaller organisations and growing companies. Bionow events are designed differently, giving organisations access to high-quality content, targeted networking and industry insight much closer to home.
Most importantly, our events are built around meaningful engagement. People regularly tell us they leave with new contacts, potential collaborations and valuable conversations that can have a direct impact on their business. That's where the real value lies.
Bionow has always championed the strength of regional life sciences communities. Why is that regional focus so important?
The North is home to one of the most dynamic and innovative life sciences communities anywhere in Europe. Across biotech, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, medtech, digital health and specialist support services, there is an enormous amount of expertise and innovation happening throughout the region.
We've always believed that organisations should not have to travel to London or overseas to access high-quality industry events. By hosting events across the North of the UK, we're making it easier for businesses to connect with customers, partners, investors and collaborators within their own ecosystem, building the links they need to flourish and grow.
We're seeing increasing engagement from organisations in Scotland. What's driving that growth?
Scotland has a world-class life sciences sector, and we're seeing growing interest from organisations that want to be part of a broader network across the North. Through initiatives such as Biotech & Beers networking sessions in Edinburgh, our Empowering Women in Biotech event in Glasgow, and our collaboration with ELRIG on the Drug Discovery in Scotland Forum, we've built strong relationships across the Scottish ecosystem.
That engagement has translated into a growing Scottish membership base, and we're responding to that demand by expanding our activity in the region. The launch of BioInsight, our new conference series in Scotland, is a significant step forward and reflects our long-term commitment to supporting the sector's continued growth.
How do these Scottish events and initiatives fit into Bionow's wider strategy?
They're an important part of our mission to connect the life sciences community across the North. We want to create opportunities for organisations to build relationships, share expertise and collaborate, regardless of where they're based. These events also offer opportunities for companies based in the North of England to engage with their Scottish neighbours, further strengthening the northern ecosystem.
The launch of BioInsight strengthens that approach by creating a dedicated platform for Scotland's life sciences community while connecting it to the wider Bionow network. It also reinforces our belief that high-quality events can deliver real value without the significant costs often associated with larger national and international conferences.
Finally, what would you say to organisations considering attending a Bionow event for the first time?
I'd encourage them to come along and experience it for themselves. Bionow events are known for being welcoming, collaborative and focused on creating genuine opportunities for connection. Whether you're looking for new customers, potential partners, industry insights or simply a chance to expand your network, our events are designed to help make those introductions happen.
Not every valuable industry conversation needs to happen at a conference that costs thousands of pounds to attend. Our approach is to create high-impact opportunities closer to where our members are based, helping them build relationships and gain insights in a way that delivers genuine value for them.
