SMi Systems opens new labs to accelerate early commercialisation
Expansion at UK HQ will deepen key partnerships and speed the path from innovation to commercial deployment

SMi Systems has signed an agreement to build new laboratory facilities at its UK headquarters, expanding its capacity to work with partners as the company accelerates commercialisation of its technology.
The new lab space will house SMi’s assay development team and a new state-of-the-art microarray platform that accelerates volume manufacture of consumables. At the same time, SMi will open an in-house product manufacturing facility that will act as the company’s first instrument manufacturing site.
“With several more valuable partnerships on the horizon, our new bespoke lab and manufacturing facilities will provide our product development teams with the necessary tools and capacity to grow”, said Dr Andrew Thompson, SMi’s CEO. “Our existing labs in both the UK and US are already extending the capabilities of single-molecule quantification, so it is exciting to imagine what further discoveries will be made at these new facilities.”
The investment reinforces SMi Systems' commitment to innovation in the UK while creating a hub for collaborative development, testing and demonstration activities. The facilities will become operational in Q4 2026
