Liverpool Accelerate Laboratory launched at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

The Liverpool Accelerate Laboratory, a £20 million UK-first high-security facility located at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and developed through iiCON, will accelerate the fight against deadly infections and help phase out animal testing.

Featuring advanced liquid handling, robotic systems and analytical equipment, this high security Containment Level 3 (CL3) lab will support academic and commercial innovation - leveraging advanced automated organoid infection R&D to accelerate the discovery of next-generation drugs and diagnostics.

The Laboratory is set to generate £40 million of investment in the first three years – creating well-paid jobs and securing the UK's position as a global leader in infection control.

The facility is supported by £10 million Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Life Sciences Innovation Zone funding alongside grants from UK Research and Innovation and The Wolfson Foundation.
