Office for Life Sciences - Weekly Bulletin 1 November 2019

As you will have seen, the UK and the EU have agreed an extension of the Article 50 period to 31 January 2020 and the UK will not leave the EU on 31 October 2019. If the Withdrawal Agreement is ratified by both the UK and European Parliaments, the UK will leave with a deal. If ratification has not happened by 31 January 2020, the legal default is that the UK will leave the EU without a deal.

A General Election will now take place on 12 December and Parliament will be dissolved just after midnight on 6 November 2019 for a five-week election campaign.

In light of this, the weekly Office for Life Sciences EU Exit Bulletin will be temporarily paused.

DHSC advises suppliers who are engaged in DHSC’s Continuity of Supply programme to maintain their no deal plans and await further guidance. The new extension date will require further thought about the approach to no deal preparations; DHSC will provide information about what happens next as soon as possible.

There have been a few new updates since the last bulletin, please see below:

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy have produced guidance on the overview of the position for UK participants after Brexit. Update - This update confirms that the Government funding guarantee and extension will fund eligible UK participation in COST Actions until the end of 2020. We would welcome your feedback on the guidance that has been published to date so that we can work with colleagues across Government to ensure that the information on no deal is as comprehensive and clear as possible.
