This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially-minded individual to join a small, highly motivated team to help drive membership growth and business development in the UK’s Northern Life Science sector.

Bionow is an award-winning not-for-profit membership organisation sitting at the heart of the Northern life sciences community which 1000 businesses employing 38,000 highly skilled people, is home to the N8 partnership of research-intensive Universities and with strong centres of clinical excellence. Bionow’s membership base ranges from very small businesses all the way through to large corporates. Our well-established high-profile events calendar provides a platform for high value networking within our vibrant community.

Reporting to the Executive Director; Business Development, the appointee will deliver on three core strands of activity. Firstly, to be responsible for the recruitment, retention and development of Members within the defined geographical area, introducing and marketing the comprehensive portfolio of Bionow products and services to SME biomedical companies and the associated supply chain. Secondly to deliver services to University Sponsors including facilitating connections between companies and Universities. Finally, to be proactive as the local representative of Bionow in the North East and Yorkshire – helping to drive Members’ Event attendance, take-up of student placements and engagement with Bionow programmes.

With a strongly commercial, hands-on and customer-focused approach, the role will require broad biomedical / life science industry understanding to enable the appointee to identify opportunities for collaboration, partnership working and the provision of business support services. The successful candidate will be a strong networker, culturally aware with a track record of commercial success, relationship building and a passion for winning new business coupled with previous experience in an industry relevant to Bionow’s target market.

Candidates will be self-starters with an engaging manner who can demonstrate drive, tenacity and a strong team ethic coupled with exemplary communication & presentation skills. Listening and influencing will be key competencies along with strong IT and financial awareness and candidates will demonstrate the ability to build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels whilst being comfortable with a field-based position. Proven experience in technical sales/marketing will be an advantage, while a scientific background will be helpful but is not essential.
